There are no serious downhill mountain bike rides on Salt Spring Island, which is more suited to cross-country riding, and locals are known to discourage mountain bikers from using hiking trails.

The most popular ride is in Mount Maxwell Provincial Park, which contains Baynes Peak (595 metres/1950 feet), one of the highest points on Salt Spring Island. The gravel road to Mount Maxwell is steep, narrow and bumpy, suitable for mountain biking up to the top.

The hiking trails at Ruckle Provincial Park are suitable for multi-use access, especially the quiet trail to Yeo Point, although park rules state that bicycles are not allowed on the walking trails in the park.

Cross-country trails are located around Bruce Peak and Mt. Sullivan.
