Salt Spring Island offers one venue for hanggliding and paragliding:
Bruce Peak, Mount Bruce
Overlooking the Fulford Valley, the coastal, mountain site provides a east-facing launching pad on the edge of the cliff, offering ridge and thermal flying.
The coastal, mountain site on Mount Maxwell was used for ridge and thermal flying by advanced pilots for many years, but has since been moved to Bruce Peak. The Mount Maxwell Provincial Park Management Plan (July 2012) prohibits paragliding and hanggliding to guarantee the safety of visitors and ensure the protection of nesting birds.
